Dear Sir/Madam,

8th BESSING WALK & CARNIVAL

EMBRACING OUR FUTURE

On behalf of Markham Wesley Centre (MWC) we are writing to you to announce that our 8th Anniversary Blessing Walk & Carnival will be held on Saturday, August 11, 2018 at the MWC. This fundraising event aims to raise much needed funds, and in particular funds for expanded operations focused particularly on children and youth.

The MWC is located at 22 Esna Park Drive in Markham and is more than 22,000 square feet in size. It was established to serve the residents of the culturally diverse communities of Markham and Richmond Hill in the York Region. Our core mission is to promote cultural harmony and enhance the overall well-being of the surrounding communities and to assist new immigrants in adapting to new lives in Canada. We hope that by providing these communities with various social, recreational and physical activities we will help to promote the physical and mental health of each individual living within them.

Since its opening in December 2014 the MWC has grown to more than 1,800 registered members, with an average of 300 members participating in different activities at the Centre each day. These include ESL for new immigrants, volleyball, badminton and table tennis. We also have our own community choir, cooking classes, photography and various other activities for the elderly.

The theme of our fundraising event this year is "Embracing our Future"- a future that relies on the younger generation to become the pillar of our communities.
By providing activities focused particularly on children and youth, the MWC hopes to promote positive values that are based on the Five Aspects of well-rounded development: ethics, intellect, physique, social skills and aesthetics.  Our activities to promote these qualities include comprehensive and diversified counselling and personal support services.

The building housing the MWC also houses the Markham Free Methodist Church, which is about to complete an expansion that will bring in modern entertainment elements, including a large and sophisticated electronic screen system, excellent acoustics and more than 700 theatre-grade seats.  This facility will also contribute to the MWC’s ability to carry out its mission.

Your donation will make a big difference and will be very important in the development of the children and youth activities described above. With your support and participation, we are sure we will be able to improve both the quality and quantity of these services.
